Scouting For a Second Hand RV

Recreational vehicles are becoming a staple in the western part of the world. More and more people are shifting from the traditional house with picket fences to the itinerant lifestyle. Some of the leading reasons of people shifting are the following:
The cost of an RV is less than that of the cost of real estate.
Expenses on utilities are significantly reduced per year.
RVing has been observed as a greener lifestyle as opposed to a house.
RVing is a minimalist lifestyle and it has been studied by psychologists as a more satisfying lifestyle.

In spite of these benefits, some are hesitant to purchase an RV. Yes, an RV can cost thousands of dollars. It may be a costly at first however, in the long run, RVing can save you a lot of money. And besides, you can buy a second hand RV.

Purchasing a second hand RV is actually, easy, if you know what to check out for. Here are some things to keep in mind before purchasing one:
Take note of the model and manufacturer of the RV.
Manufacturer’s websites are filled of valuable information. Knowing the model and checking it through their website would help you determine any revisions done to the RV and the features that are included such as a stovetop, RV shower and a couple of bunk beds. Beware also of any damage being covered up by the sellers.
Give the engine a thorough check.
The efficiency of the RV starts with a powerful engine. Be thorough when inspecting it or get a second opinion. On the other hand, trailers’ hitch and attaching chains are also to be tested. This includes latches for all the fixtures especially for pop up camper trailers.
Check the exterior for any damages.
Simple scratches and dents on the outside of the trailer are normal. Cracks on the other hand can mean serious issues. This could compromise the integrity of the whole trailer if left unchecked.
Interiors should be thoroughly inspected especially for mold and water damage.
During years of use, floors, appliances and bed cushions get worn down, although nothing is much serious as mold or water damage. RV showers also are prone to mold and mildew. Seals surrounding RV shower should be intact too. Any damage can spike the price up since the added cost to repair or replace any appliance, furniture and any fixtures inside.
Test the stability of the roof, tent and seals on windows.
Protection from exposure to harsh weather conditions is important when camping. The roof, tent and the seals on windows should be checked too.
It is recommended to purchase form reliable dealers.
There are several reliable dealers nationwide and most are recognized by the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association. Typically, RVs are screened before being auctioned through dealers. There are also flexible payment terms that might fit your preference.

Add your own personality to the trailer. Decorate it with a few RV addons. These RVs might be used but do not dismiss second hand RVs so easily. Sometimes a little bit of dusting is all that is needed. Whether or not you chose to purchase an RV or take out a rental, have the basic RV checks in person before taking the RV.
