RVs or recreational vehicles are the product of early era of pioneers’ concept of a roving camp wherein they travel the lands with all their belongings searching for a place to settle.  The modern RVs are usually equipped of the basic necessities for everyday life such as pull out beds that come out of walls, bathrooms that are hidden into compartments and kitchens with microwave ovens, stoves and sinks packed neatly in a corner. Others boasts of state-of-the-art facilities and can even be customized. Nevertheless, some are hesitant to own one. Yes, maintaining the RV cam be arduous but it is no different than maintaining a home.

There are several essential points to be remembered in living the RV life. These would keep your RV in tiptop shape while enjoying the comforts of a mobile home.

  • Everything has its own place.
Since the space is compact, each and every piece of equipment has its own place. It is important to put items in their proper storage as to maximize the space inside the RV.

  • Check water storage and food stocks periodically.
Long drives and camping on isolated places can be a nightmare if you are short on water and food supply. Be sure to check if your supplies will last for the duration of your trip.

  • Pop the hood for a checkup once in a while.
Of course, maintaining the engine performance ensures your safety and the safety of others. Keep in mind that the RV is heavier and therefore needs a powerful and efficient engine.

  • Pack up before driving off.
Once the trailer moves, everything moves too. To minimize any untoward incidents, make sure to pack everything into their designated places before you start on the engine.

  • Dispose of garbage and waste responsibly.
Black and gray waters should always be disposed off regularly as to avoid pipe blockage and awful odors. There are designated dumping stations that are usually found on the manual of most RVs. Proper routine garbage disposal also ensures no contamination on food and/or kitchen area.

1.    Pool noodles
Pool noodles are quite versatile and very effective in child proofing an RV. Pool noodles can be inserted beneath bed covers that act as added barrier on beds. Sharp corners can also be padded down with half a pool noodle.

2.    Bungee cords
Bungee cords are efficient in containing items within open containers and such.

3.    RV sink strainer
You might think that something small couldn’t possibly contribute much. In actuality, an RV sink strainer prevents solid particles to clog up the pipes. Clear pipes essentially mean no rotten smells and more efficient kitchen usage. There are different sizes of RV sink strainers are available in the market at a fraction of a cost saving you lots of trouble. 

4.    Nesting ware or collapsible items
A minimalist mindset can also be advantageous in RV living. Since the space is limited, nesting wares or collapsible items are preferred as to utilize every inch of the area.

5.    Keep a checklist
A checklist of the equipments to be monitored, supplies to be bought and routine engine checks should be posted in plain sight. It should be placed where every member of the household can see it.
